Description

A perfectly seared ribeye or New York strip steak, seasoned simply to allow the beef’s natural flavor to shine.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Ribeye or New York Strip Steak (about 1 inch thick)
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt
  • ½ tsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, crushed
  • 2 sprigs Fresh Thyme or Rosemary

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat until sizzling hot.
  2. Generously season both sides of the steak with salt and pepper.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of high-smoke point oil to the skillet and swirl to coat.
  4. Place the seasoned steak in the skillet and sear for 4-5 minutes without moving it.
  5. Flip the steak, then add butter, garlic, and herbs to one side of the pan. Baste the steak with the melted butter mixture for added flavor.
  6. Cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare (130°F). Adjust cooking time based on desired doneness.
  7. Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing to retain juices.

Notes

  • For a smoky flavor, consider using a cast-iron skillet.
  • Adjust the cooking times based on the thickness of the steak and desired doneness.
