Description

Delicious crispy shrimp coated in a sweet and spicy honey glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp Hot sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour (can be substituted with gluten-free flour)
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • to taste Salt and pepper (season generously)
  • 1/2 cup Honey (opt for raw honey)
  • 1 tbsp Red pepper flakes (adjust to your spice level)

Instructions

  1. Start by cleaning and deveining your shrimp, ensuring they’re dry. Pat them gently with paper towels for that perfect crispy texture when fried.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, and your favorite spices. Whisk until smooth; this should be thick enough to coat the shrimp well without dripping off.
  3. In a deep pan, heat oil to 350°F. You can test it by dropping a small amount of batter in—if it sizzles immediately, you’re ready to fry!
  4. Dip each shrimp into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. This creates a delightful crunch once fried—keep them all coated evenly!
  5. Carefully place the battered shrimp in the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. In a small saucepan over low heat, mix honey with red pepper flakes and a splash of vinegar. Stir until warmed through; it should be slightly runny but sticky.
  7. Once fried, transfer the shrimp to a bowl and pour the hot honey glaze over them. Toss gently until every bite is beautifully coated.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to suit your taste.
  • Serve with a side of your favorite dipping sauce.
