Description

This classic Red Velvet Cake is rich, moist, and topped with creamy frosting, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar, eggs, buttermilk, oil, food coloring, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients; mix until just combined.
  5. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for ten minutes before transferring to racks to cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until fluffy; gradually add powdered sugar until desired sweetness is reached.
  8. Level the cooled cake layers and frost between layers and on top and sides of the cake.

Notes
